1. JOIN US FOR A PRIVATE SCREENING OF BOYS IN THE BOAT!
Thanks to an extremely generous anonymous donor, we have secured a private viewing of the movie The Boys in the Boat. If you haven’t heard of this movie yet, it’s a true story set in the 1930s centered on the University of Washington’s rowing team, from their Depression-era beginnings to winning gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
For this private showing, we can accommodate up to 100 people. Athletes, former athletes and their families take precedence for attendance. BUT, there should be plenty of room for everyone to bring a friend. Maybe invite someone interested in joining our team!
Please RSVP so we can keep track of how many people to expect. The cost to attend is free, but you’re on your own for transportation and snacks. Highly recommend carpooling – but reach out on Slack if you want to attend and transportation is an issue.
Wear your Woodson Spirit Wear!
DATE: Thursday, Dec 28
TIME: 1:00 pm
PLACE: Cinemark Fairfax Corner,11900 Palace Way, Fairfax, VA 22030.
Auditorium 4.
RSVP HERE.
2. WINTER CONDITIONING OVER WINTER BREAK
OPTIONAL winter conditioning continues today and tomorrow. There is NO winter conditioning next week (12/25 – 1/1). Athletes should check with their coaches to determine appropriate workouts for that week. The regular winter conditioning schedule will resume on January 2, 2024!
3. REGISTRATION AND SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY
Click here to register for the season! Still have questions? Reach out to our membership team at [email protected].
If the cost of participating is an issue, please reach out to Jenn Ros, membership chair via Slack or [email protected]. Also, consider applying for the Occoquan Boat Club (OBC) Julia Shew Memorial Rowing Scholarship. The details on applying are located on the OBC website https://www.rowobc.org/home/scholarships. 4. WEBSITE CHANGE
If you’ve tried to access our website recently and have had problems – we apologize! We have moved over to woodsonrowing.org, in accordance with the recent decision to change the name of our school to C.G. Woodson High School. Here’s what you can do to help:

- Bookmark https://woodsonrowing.org as your new go-to for all things Woodson Rowing related!
5. BECOME AN ACTIVITIES BUS DRIVER FOR WOODSON ROWING!
Want to help our team AND make some money? FCPS school buses are available for the team’s use (think transportation to practice every day in the spring),IF we are able to find an Activities Bus Driver. To be an FCPS approved Activities Bus Driver, you must pass the Fairfax County Bus Driver Training and then pick Woodson Rowing as your activity of choice. The driver would be paid by FCPS AND the team will offer additional compensation. If you’re already qualified or interested in becoming an Activity Bus Driver, please contact Catherine Backmeyer via Slack for more information.
