ACTION ITEMS FOR THIS WEEK
Parents: Consider and sign up for the volunteer needs below!
Athletes:
(1) Sign up for swim test *if applicable*
(2) Start compiling names and addresses for the letter writing campaign
- *NEW* IMMEDIATE VOLUNTEER NEEDS
- PRACTICE BUS COORDINATOR: Before the bus will start running, we need one volunteer to serve as the Practice Bus Coordinator. He/She will serve as a point of contact for both the bussing company and the daily parent chaperones. The Coordinator maintains the rider list and contact information for all riders and their families. The coordinator does not need to ride the bus each day, but ensures that all rider families are meeting their chaperone duties and that all bus dates have parent chaperones. Additional volunteer credits are met by fulfilling this position. If you are interested in becoming the Coordinator please message Jenny Champagne on Slack or at [email protected].
- PARENT SWIM TEST VOLUNTEER: Seeking one volunteer to provide support to coaches and staff while they administer the swim test at Audrey Moore Rec Center on February 11 from 4-5p. Great volunteer job for a new rower parent who is going to already be there. No experience needed or required. First to sign up on the sign up genius wins!
- CRITICAL BOARD POSITION REMAINS OPEN: We are still seeking someone to fulfill the V.P. Team Liaison and Activities role. This critical role will manage a team of folks who help organize many of our events, including coordinating travel to practices and our away regattas. Please contact Tarek at [email protected] to learn more.
- *NEW* SWIM TEST FOR NEW ROWERS – FEB 11 from 4-5PM
If this is your athlete’s first year on the Woodson Crew team, they need to take a swim test before we go out on the water next month. You only need to pass a swim test once in your time on Woodson Crew, so this is for new rowers only who weren’t able to do a swim test in the fall. If your rower still needs a swim test, sign up now. Specific details of the swim test are required by US Rowing and administered by coaches. Test takes place on February 11 from 4-5 PM at Audrey Moore Rec Center pool. Click here for more details on the swim test and to sign up!
- *NEW* LETTER WRITING FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN
Our annual letter writing fundraising campaign will take place after school, but before practice in accordance with the following schedule:
- Men’s team: WEDNESDAY, JAN 11, 3:30-5:00p
- Women’s team: THURSDAY, JAN 12, 3:30-5:00p
Athletes will hand write letters to people within their personal circle to tell them about the sport of rowing, how we receive no FCPS funds, that we rely on dues and donations — and then ask for their support. To prepare: Athletes should compile a list of names and addresses for family members, friends and other acquaintances. All other materials will be provided on the day of the campaign.
- *NEW * SAVE THE DATE – PARENT SOCIAL – JANUARY 21st
More details to follow, but mark your calendars for a social gathering of crew parents. This will be your opportunity to meet members of the board, the coaches, other parents, and to learn more about the sport and the season. This will be a potluck gathering, so be on the lookout for location and a sign up genius.
- WINTER CONDITIONING HAS RESUMED¶
