Stotesbury attendees: NLT Tues, May 2, Pay and submit forms

  1. *NEW* URGENT VOLUNTEER NEED
We still have an immediate and urgent need for a FOOD COORDINATOR for the Stotesbury Cup Regatta. This very important job will be filled, ideally, by a parent who is going to attend the regatta, May 18-20. HOWEVER, if you’re willing to help here at home and are not traveling, we still welcome your contribution! Please reach out on the #2023-stotesbury channel on Slack if you’re able to take on this role.

The Food Coordinator is someone who can:

  • Purchase and prep a lot of food (breakfast, lots of snacks, 2 big lunch days on the water)
    • Burgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers for one of the days (these would just be bought and kept frozen until we leave).
    • Pre-cook fajita style chicken and veggies, which can be sealed in bags with a good sealer, then frozen. This will be revived riverside.
  • Freeze and otherwise store the above and other food somewhere securely.
  • Be available the week of May 15 to have the Chuckwagon parked on their property so it can be loaded for travel to Philadelphia. (Please note: you are not responsible for moving the chuckwagon! We will transport it to you and remove it before Stotes).
  1. *NEW* VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS
Each family has a volunteer commitment as part of their student’s role on the Woodson Rowing team. Several families have incomplete volunteer hours this season. If you haven’t volunteered yet this season, please check out the opportunities below and sign up now. Thank you!
  • Team Dinners: We still need ONE chaperone for our final team dinner this Friday.
  • Regatta Jobs: Assistant Dockmaster needed THIS SATURDAY
  • Stotesbury Cup volunteer jobs: plenty of opportunities for folks who are NOT traveling, and also who are willing to help while in Philadelphia.
  • Join the Board! The WTW Crew Nominating Committee is looking to fill the Fundraising Chair role (currently Alice Wang) for next year. The ideal Fundraising Chair is willing to put together and manage a team of volunteers who help organize and coordinate fundraising activities for the team. You work closely with the VP for Communications and the Volunteer Coordinator. You also sit as a member of the Board of Directors and help guide the team in support of the team’s financial plan. Please contact Catherine Backmeyer, the Nominating Committee Chair, on Slack or at [email protected] if you want to know more!
  1. TEAM DINNER, FRIDAY, MAY 5
This week’s dinner is on FRIDAY, MAY 5 in Woodson Cafeteria A. We realize that not all boats will be rowing on Day 1 of States this Saturday, but all athletes are expected to attend the team dinner.
  1. STOTESBURY CUP REGATTA INFO
Coaches have finalized the boats and rowers attending the Stotesbury Cup. If your rower is attending please go to the Stotesbury Cup info page to submit payment and required forms as soon as possible. Payment and forms are due tomorrow Tues, May 2, 2023. This needs to be done in order for your rower to attend.

If families need assistance with this registration cost, scholarship funds are available. Contact [email protected] to learn more.

You will find info on booking rooms, travel, luggage, schoolwork and more on the Stotesbury Cup info page.

If you have additional questions about the Stotesbury Cup, join us for a Zoom Q&A on Wednesday 5/3 at 7:45.

  1. VIRGINIA STATE ROWING CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA THIS SATURDAY
Our next regatta is this Saturday at Sandy Run Regional Park. Traditionally for the two-weekend VSRC regatta, novice and junior varsity boats row in the first weekend and varsity boats row in the second weekend. While VASRA is still making final plans for the regatta schedules, we should plan for the following boats to race this weekend: Women’s Novice 4+, Women’s Novice 8+, Women’s 3rd Varsity 8+, Men’s 3rd Varsity 8+, Men’s 4th Varsity 8+ First and second 8s will most likely row 5/13. Student-athletes know which category they are racing in for States. As always, unless told otherwise by a coach, rowers must be at the boathouse no later than two hours before their scheduled race.
  1. SAVE THE DATE: END OF SEASON CELEBRATION
Please save Wednesday, May 31 for an end of season pizza party and annual membership meeting at Woodson Cafeteria A. More details coming soon.
  1. SEE AND SHARE PHOTOS
Please share any photos you take at regattas with the team! Send photos to our Team Photographer, Colin, at [email protected] AND [email protected] (please send to both email addresses for now) so he can upload the photos into our team photos on SmugMug.
