April 9, 2024 Newsletter

While the weather did not turn out for us at the Tri-Meet this weekend, our athletes showed up and put in hard work under very challenging conditions. Thankful for tough athletes and supportive families who show up regardless of what mother nature throws at us! This weekend is a “bye” week, so there will be no racing. Enjoy some more free time this weekend, because we will be continuing to charge full steam ahead into the rest of the season.

  1. SCHEDULING NOTES FOR THIS WEEK
Wednesday, April 10 is a Student Holiday in honor of Eid-al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan and breaking of the fast. Practice will be held at the regularly scheduled time. Remember to contact your coaches if you will not be attending practice.

There is no Friday night team dinner this Friday, April 12 and no regatta or practice this Saturday, April 13.

  1. PARENT LEARN-TO-ROW FUNDRAISER, TIME CHANGE!
Because there is a collegiate regatta happening at Sandy Run on Sunday, April 14, we are moving the TIME of the parent-learn-to-row to 3p. If you are signed up and cannot attend now, please pull yourself from the sign up. If the time change opens up the opportunity for you to join us, please SIGN UP HERE! Spots are still available. We are asking participants for a minimum donation of $50 to the team.
  1. SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SENIORS
Woodson Athletic Boosters has a few scholarships available for students who participated in sports while at Woodson. The applications are due by April 24. Visit the Woodson College & Career Center for the application and more information.
  1. STOTESBURY CUP REGATTA – BASIC Q&A + ROOM BOOKING INFO
It seems far away, but it is creeping up on us! There are always lots of questions leading up to this regatta, so here is a short Q&A to hopefully address some of your most immediate questions:

Q: What is the Stotesbury Cup Regatta and why is it such a big deal?
A: Short answer: The Stotesbury Cup Regatta is the oldest and largest high school regatta in the United States! Longer answer: check out our webpage with all the information and links you need to satisfy your curiosity: https://woodsonrowing.org/stotesbury/

Q: Who is going?
A: Line ups are set by the coaches based on a number of factors, to include whether or not an athlete is even available to go. If you already know your athlete is NOT available for Stotesbury, please have them contact their coaches ASAP. Our coaches try to take as many competitive boats as possible. That may mean, however, that not everyone will be placed in a lineup. Athletes can direct their questions on lineups to the coaches.

Q: How do I and should I book a hotel room?
A: Reservations for athletes and coaches will be made by the team. You do NOT need to book a room for your athlete. If you would like to spectate, however, you are responsible for your own transportation and lodging. Spectators are not required to stay at the team hotel (unless you sign up as a chaperone – then it is preferred that you stay on-site with the team). A limited number of rooms for family reservations have been reserved as a block, but they must be reserved no later than APRIL 27, 2024 to receive the negotiated rate and are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
